Audio Information Service volunteers come from a wide range of backgrounds and age groups. They are high school or college students, working individuals, or people who are retired. Some volunteers live outside of the immediate McDonough County area and are normally assigned magazines to record on audiocassettes for the RIS/WSS.
An audition test and orientation session is required before becoming a volunteer reader for RIS/WSS/Call-RIS. The short audition includes reading a newspaper article and a vocabulary list. To schedule an audition, call (309) 298-2403.
Personal Reader Service volunteers must submit an application (complete with references) followed by an orientation session.
Volunteers are also needed to serve on the regional advisory board and to assist with the annual fundraisers. For more information regarding your interest in any of the volunteer opportunities, call (309) 298-2403.
